Knowledge Sharing EP2 : FLARE benefit

Question : How to improve steam saving of the 1st Generation of XP Flare ?
Answer :

Option 1 : Cooling Steam Reduction (CSR Stage) uses 60- 70% less steam at purge than existing steam flare technologies.
  • The XP CSR steam technology is a small steam injection system to reduce the required steam during purge conditions and preserve the life of the flare tip.
  • Greatly reduces the amount of enrichment gas (if required) that will be required to meet a minimum LHV at the tip exit.
  • This technology allows as much as 2/3 less steam required for normal low flow day-to-day operations

Option 2 : The XP Staged Steam technology features an additional steam injection system designed to allow significant reduction in steam requirements at turndown.
  • Many in the industry know that steam flares with large max capacities lose their steam / hydrocarbon efficiency in turndown conditions.
  • This can require 2 to 3 times the steam / hydrocarbon ratio to keep the flare smokeless.
  • Adding the XP Staged Steam technology allows the flare system to keep the steam / hydrocarbon ratios low at turndown rates.
  • For normal low flow day-to-day operations, this technology only uses approximately 1/3 the amount of steam as that  used by older style technologies.

Recommendation
To optimize steam reduction, we recommend that the customer should install both the Cooling Steam Reduction (CSR Stage) and the Stage systems. However, if the customer needs to choose only one, it will still provide significant benefits in terms of steam reduction.
